James is an engaging and dedicated Senior Neurological Physiotherapist, passionate about helping individuals rediscover movement, confidence, and independence after neurological injury or illness.
Since qualifying from the University of Plymouth in 2020, James has gained extensive experience across specialist areas including Neurosurgery, Intensive Care, and Stroke Rehabilitation within University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. He joined the Plymouth Neurophysio team in 2023, bringing a wealth of clinical knowledge and a creative, client-centred approach to rehabilitation.
James works with clients experiencing a wide range of neurological conditions, including stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, functional neurological disorders, and other complex long-term neurological conditions. He combines evidence-based physiotherapy with innovative, engaging methods — from Tidal Tank training and virtual reality to hydrotherapy — ensuring therapy is both effective and enjoyable, tailored to each individual’s goals.
He is also trained in the assessment and setup of ALFESS, supporting clients to improve lower limb activation, gait, and functional mobility through the use of neurotechnology.
Alongside his clinical work, James supervises and trains rehabilitation assistants and support staff, fostering consistency and excellence across the team. He has completed specialist training in Aquatic Therapy for Neurological Conditions with the ATACP and leads hydrotherapy sessions designed to maximise functional gains and enjoyment.
Away from work, James is never far from the sea — whether surfing, kayaking, or diving — bringing the same energy, curiosity, and adventurous spirit to his work in neurorehabilitation.
