Lucy qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 2014 and began my career in Dorset within a Community Acquired Brain Injury Rehabilitation Team, where my passion for neurological rehabilitation first developed. After gaining valuable experience as a junior Occupational Therapist, progressing to a specialist neurological rehabilitation unit in Salisbury before moving into a Senior Occupational Therapist role on the Acute Stroke Unit at Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
When the opportunity arose to return to the Community Brain Injury Team in a senior position, Lucy was delighted to do so, continuing to build my expertise in community-based neurological rehabilitation until relocating back to Plymouth in 2024.
Throughout her career, Lucy has worked with individuals presenting with a wide range of complex neurological conditions, including traumatic and acquired brain injury, stroke, and progressive neurological disorders. She is passionate about helping people understand their condition and firmly believes that education is a key part of successful rehabilitation. She enjoys supporting patients and their families to understand the physiological effects of brain injury and explaining concepts such as neuroplasticity in an accessible and meaningful way. This helps people understand not only what we are doing in therapy, but also why some of our approaches may seem a little "weird and wonderful" at first!
Her approach to rehabilitation is centred on making therapy meaningful, engaging, and tailored to the individual's goals. I have extensive experience delivering both individual and group interventions, particularly in brain injury education, cognitive rehabilitation, and fatigue management.
She particularly enjoys working with people within their own homes and everyday environments, where we can identify challenges, problem-solve collaboratively, and develop practical strategies to maximise independence and achieve the best possible outcomes.
She is also experienced in vocational rehabilitation, supporting individuals to return to work following injury or illness, or helping them explore alternative employment options that reflect their strengths, abilities, and aspirations.
Lucy is committed to lifelong learning and maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice. Regularly engages in continuing professional development and have a keen interest in emerging neurological rehabilitation approaches. She strives to integrate new and innovative treatments into my practice where they are supported by robust evidence, ensuring the interventions she provides are both current and effective for the individuals I support.
