My name is Jimmy . I had a brain stem haemorrhagic stroke in December 2019 while living in Bristol and working as a 32 year old Doctor. This left me wheelchair bound with severe lack of coordination in my limbs and a tremor in my right hand side. Plymouth Neurophysio were recommended to me by a family member and a physiotherapist in Bristol. I became a client when I moved to near Plymouth in November 2021.
I started working with the Plymouth Neurophysio team at a bad time in terms of my mobility, spending a lot of time in bed and walking short distances with a walking frame. From the first session the physiotherapist identified issues with my core stability and stated that there was much to work on which could be improved through specific exercises. I have subsequently improved my walking considerably and have taken up kayaking, recumbent cycling and gig rowing.
I have worked with two physiotherapists, a hydrotherapist and a personal trainer , all of whom have been kind, compassionate and motivating. What has struck me most has been the knowledge and empathy they have all shown and their willingness to help me beyond the actual sessions.
In the future I plan to return to work and want to continue doing as much sport as possible. My physiotherapist is encouraging of this and is enabling me to achieve these goals. She is helping me consider what help and adaptations I will need in the workplace.

The team are hugely positive and supportive and have helped me towards achieving my ultimate goal of living independently and returning to work, both of which I hope to achieve within the near future.
