I am 68 years old and suffered a stroke in January 2017. The stroke affected the Thalamus on the right side of my brain, leading to problems with my balance and proprioception (how I perceive my body in space) on my left side. This left me with weakness down the whole of my left side.
I first contacted Plymouth Neurophysio six months after my stroke and was referred to my current neuro-physiotherapist very quickly and have been working with her ever since (4 years plus).
I am very happy with the support and treatment offered by my physiotherapist, which has addressed my disabilities and mobility issues in a comprehensive (holistic) manner. My physiotherapist works with my GP and neurological consultant and other support services e.g. hydrotherapy, cycling and NHS physiotherapy, and this has also created opportunities to join national programmes and participate in research to further support me and work to improve my condition.
Nearly five years on from my stroke, I am fit, strong and confident thanks to the direct support of my physiotherapist and the additional services provided by Plymouth Neurophysio and able to enjoy my life and the outdoors and participate in my wider community.
